Paula Abdul - Spellbound
|
This album was a big hit for Paula Abdul. Prince's contribution was a so-so track titled "U." Interestingly, the song dated back to another project Prince was working on early in his career, The Rebels. The group was one of Prince's earliest protogés, before The Time and Vanity 6. Their recording of the track was much more rock oriented and typical of the period it was recorded in. Paula Abdul's take on the song does not help Prince's mediocre track. She has a naisley voice that works to her advantage on several numbers. Not this one, though.
