This is volume 2.1 of The Vault FAQ. The maintainers of The Vault, Warren Mason and Bill Johnson, can be reached on the Contact page, if necessary. We like feedback so the site can be the best possible.

"Did you receive a cease and desist order from representatives of The Artist?"

We at The Vault often refer to ourselves as the public library of The Artist's career. We invite our visitors to browse the contents of this site to enhance their knowledge of one of music's greatest artists, O{+^.

The Vault does include limited album cover art, sound clips and published articles. It is of note that recent Internet copyright laws have made the usage of such material questionable in most circumstances.

We at The Vault are not above the law and invite the copyright holders to discuss the use of their material on this site, if they desire. It is our hope that in such an event we can reach a compromise to benefit both The Vault, its visitors and the disgruntled party.

Nearly all of the pictures, articles and sounds, have been available on this high-profile site for over five years without adverse reaction from a single copyright holder. Moreover, we were never given a cease and desist letter when representatives of The Artist requested most "fan sites" discontinue. It is our hope that The Artist and his representatives understand the respectful intentions of The Vault and our mission as a nonprofit, unofficial, O{+^ public library. Any pictures or sounds are only used to enhance factual data and redistribution of said files is strictly prohibited.

"Dear Prince, The Artist or O{+^"

Occasionally, we receive a letter of this nature. The Vault is not affiliated with any of those parties, nor are we connected to Paisley Park, Paisley Park Retail, Paisley Park Records, NPG Records, PRN Enterprises, Warner Brothers Records, EMI Records or any other official entity.

"Can you tell me where Dear Prince, The Artist or O{+^'s official website is located?"

The primary official website is Love 4 One Another. There is a list of O{+^'s official sites in the Online major section.

"Does the Artist (or Mayte) have an email address?"

Yes, both him and Mayte have quite a few. However, if I were to post any of those addresses here, their mailboxes would get swamped with letters.

"This thing is huge, how long do you spend a day working on it?"

The Vault has come together over time. In it's present format, the maintainers only have to update every couple of days. Although, there are slow periods where there is no relevant information for weeks. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge those who have assisted the site over time.

"Can you get me any bootlegs of the shows in your Concert section?"

No. Simply because the maintainers do not collect bootlegs and do not have access to any unofficial product. The archive is basically a historical record of one of the most important artists in the history of music. The Artist is highly opposed to the bootlegging of his material and we at The Vault respect his opinions.

"Is there any way I can help?"

Yes, you can send any corrections, information, indicated missing graphics or interesting articles to us. We encourage users to tear this place apart and find any misinformation so it can be corrected. To reach us, please use the Contact page.

"Come on, you must know someone on the inside…"

A lot of people ask us this and we will just sum up by saying that sources often value their anonymity. We will never violate that relationship with our contacts.

Also, we will never post information on The Vault that threatens the success of one of the Artist’s products. So far, we have not been contacted regarding such an issue, and have used our judgement in the past, but we always invite O{+^ and his representatives to ask us to remove any item that may harm his planned career direction. We will certainly do this, assuming the request is reasonable.

Moreover, we will never post information about the Artist’s personal life. We also have a policy of not responding to letters that request information about items pertaining to things that are none of our business like money, family or anything else that does not pertain to the Artist’s music or message.

"Can I join your mailing list for The Vault?"

At the current time, we are gathering a list of people who frequently view this site. You can send us a letter on the Contact page that will put you on our list, if you desire. We do not send out letters frequently, but occasionally there is an update we like to inform our readers about.

"I was reading an article where your site was called the ‘definitive word on the Internet on the Artist.’ Why can’t I access your site with that URL?"

Reuters inadvertently left out the "~" in my web page address when the article was printed, so it is not accessible without that symbol. Of course, if you are here, you knew that. What can we say? We were very flattered, are bragging and invite anyone in the media to make such comments. :-)

"What are these abbreviations?"

Sometimes, it is necessary to abbreviate something on The Vault for design practices.
TMBGITW- "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"
ATWIAD- "Around The World In A Day"
LOL- Laugh out loud
ROFL- Roll On Floor Laughing

"Your site is, to say the least, misleading. I was looking for the Oct. 30, 1950 issue of LIFE magazine. Where is it?"

Sorry, but you are in the wrong place. This site just deals with the Artist Formerly Known as "Prince". Yes, we really did get this one before. ;-)
