Graffiti Bridge Soundtrack
|
Some of Prince's core listeners mark Graffiti Bridge as the end of his artistic peak. Although this opinion is easily disregarded, there is little doubt it ended an era in his music. Soon after the release of Graffiti Bridge, the 1990s sound became more dominated by rap and other sounds Prince needed to incorporate in his sound to stay in touch commercially.
The album did not do much on the charts and the movie it was meant to support bombed even worse. The music on Graffiti Bridge was not just limited to Prince, although he wrote it all. Tevin Cambell, The Time and Mavis Staples all contributed to the soundtrack and appeared in the movie. In fact, it was Tevin's performance of "Round And Round" that got the most commercial attention. Prince only managed a minor hit with "Thieves In The Temple." The album is strong, but all the artists performing on the effort blur the excellence of the tracks Prince performed.
