This album is generally regarded as an improvement over Prince's debut. Anxious to improve on the success (and budget) of For You, the musician worked quickly. Although the first two releases are similar in sound, Prince is a more focused and less conservative effort. Prince managed a minor hit in the U.S. with "I Wanna Be Your Lover."
